Can You Trust Your Doctor?/ Trip to Cuba/ Chicken Genetics

Can You Trust Your Doctor?/ Trip to Cuba/ Chicken Genetics

Can You Trust Your Doctor? It's not a topic you want to think about when you're sick, so what should you do beforehand to make sure you pick the right physician? It's the subject of a community health forum tomorrow in Sacramento, the first in a series called Second Opinions, which is co-sponsored by Capital Public Radio. We'll talk with a local doctor who's moderating the discussion and a patient advocate who's participating in the panel.

Second Opinions community forum "Can You Trust Your Doctor?" is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25th at the Lecture Hall at Pacific McGeorge School of Law, 3200 Fifth Ave., Sacramento. Information: (916) 278-8900.

Trip to Cuba A Sacramento man who was born in Havana recently returned to Cuba with his pastor to visit family and rebuild a church dormitory. Today on Insight, we'll talk with the two men about their trip and hear what Cuba is like today.

A public presentation of the Church of God's work in Cuba is at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 8th at The Church of God, 5334 Whitney Ave., Carmichael. Information: (916) 482-7128.

Chicken Genetics Commercial chickens have only about half the genetic diversity of their ancestors, according to a recent study by a UC Davis professor. That steep drop in genetic diversity is potentially a big problem. The less diversity in a species, the more prone it is to illness and other challenges. How did the chickens get this way? What kind of problems are showing up and what can be done about it?
