"Hair" is here/ Shawna Yang Ryan/ Hopeful depression

"Hair" is here   The musical "Hair: The American Tribal Love Rock Musical" is being staged in Sacramento for the first time in 17 years. Artistic Differences, a new theater company in the area, is producing it. You'll meet the director and members of the cast and hear them perform this famous play about 1960s culture that has remained a hit 40 years after its debut.

Shawna Yang Ryan   Author and Sacramento native Shawna Yang Ryan's first novel was published this month, and she's already drawing praise from the likes of author John Lescroart. "Locke 1928" is a historical novel set in the Chinese Delta farming community of Locke. Find out about the book and what projects this San Francisco community college professor is working on next.

Hopeful depression  Over 20 million Americans are thought to suffer from depression. Most people think of the diagnosis as depressing in itself, but Bay area phychologist Dr. Lara Honos-Web disagrees and says it can help you get your life on track. Meet her and find out about her new book, "Listening to Depression: How Understanding Your Pain Can Heal Your Life".

Dr. Lara Honos-Webb speaks at 7 p.m. Friday, May 18 at East West Books, 2216 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento.  Information: (916) 920-3837.
