It’s been more than seven decades since USS Oklahoma was bombed by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor, yet hundreds of families are still waiting for confirmation that their loved ones were killed in the attack.
Hundreds of graves marked unknown in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific will be exhumed in in hopes of finally identifying the men who were aboard the battleship.
With advances in technology and DNA from family members of the deceased, the military believes they may finally be able to put a name to the graves.
Here & Now’s Lisa Mullins speaks with Navy Rear Adm. Michael Franken, director of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, which is leading exhumations about the process.
