Investors are still bullish on the ride-sharing company Uber. The tech news site Re/code is reporting something of a frenzy that has pushed the estimated value of the company from $17 billion up to $30 billion.
That’s despite a week of controversy, after Uber senior executive Emil Michael talked about a million dollar project to hire opposition researchers and journalists to dig up dirt to use on a reporter who has been critical of the company.
That came with news that Uber had already accessed personal Uber travel details for another journalist who was working on an article on the company.
Uber had already been on the defensive over charges of sexism and over its tactics against rivals. Peter Thiel, co-founder of Pay Pal, and an investor in Lyft, which is a major competitor, called Uber, “the most ethically challenged company in Silicon Valley.”
Nellie Bowles, editor for the tech news site Re/code, discusses Uber with Here & Now’s Lisa Mullins.
