Senators Push For More Verification In Iran Deal

WBUR
Tuesday, November 26, 2013

A group of senators is pushing for more verification in the interim nuclear deal with Iran.

Leading Democratic and Republican senators are working on legislation to reinstate the full sanctions and impose new ones if Iran doesn’t live up to its promise of dialing down its nuclear program. The legislation would require the administration to certify to Congress every 30 days that Iran is sticking to the terms of the six-month agreement.

Democratic Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey and Republican Senator Mark Kirk of Illinois hope to have the bill ready for other lawmakers to consider when the Senate returns on December 9.

Here & Now’s Robin Young checks in with Democratic Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland. He’s a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
