The Senate Budget Committee is slated to continue hearings this week (Tuesday) on the governor's plan to close a six-billion dollar gap in the budget for the current fiscal year.
Senate Democratic leader Darrell Steinberg says his measure would allow about 80-thousand state employees to work a full schedule. He says the workers are needed to collect taxes and fees.
