Fiscal Cliff & California Taxes President
Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner are still negotiating
terms to avoid taking the country over the fiscal cliff, but the
deadline is drawing closer with little progress to show. If the
nation were to go over the fiscal cliff, California has a lot to
lose. Californians would pay the highest income taxes in the
country and the state would most likely plunge back into recession
for the first two quarters of 2013. Here to explain what would
happen to California if the country goes over the fiscal cliff is
Jason Sisney, Deputy Legislative Analyst of California, and Gerald
Prante, an economics professor at Lynchburg College in Virginia,
who recently published a paper about the fiscal cliff's effect on taxes in
each state.
News Network We're adding a slight twist to
our weekly News Network segment by talking to journalists from two
different News & Review publications in the area. Nick
Miller, co-editor of the Sacramento News & Review, shares his conversation with Mayor Kevin Johnson.
Dennis Myers, reporter for the Reno
News & Review, talks to us about the proposed new city deal for the aging Reno Aces
stadium.
The Alabaster Orphan To some, "The
Alabaster Orphan: A Mystic Girl's Journey with Jesus" reads
more like a thriller than historical fiction. It's likely to stir
controversy for its controversial portrayal of Jesus' mother as a
significant spiritual guide for her son, Mary Magdalene as his wife
and confidante, and Judas as his best friend. We'll talk with
author Mary Maaga in our studio about this complex story.
