Proposition 33 Proposition 33 would allow insurance companies
to base prices on whether a driver previously carried auto
insurance. Currently, insurance companies can only base
prices on a person's driving record. Proponents of Prop 33
say it stimulates competition between insurance companies
and drives down cost of auto coverage by allowing drivers with
uninterrupted coverage to shop around their "continuous coverage"
discount. Opponents say insurance companies will pay for those discounts
by raising rates on new drivers and people with lapsed
coverage. A similar initiative narrowly failed in 2010 but
this new version makes exceptions for active-duty military and
long-term unemployed whose insurance has lapsed, which may make it
more attractive to voters.
Pet Tales: Boarding The holidays are fast
approaching and you've got a big trip planned to Tahoe or Maui, or
even the East Coast to visit your family. In previous years
you may have dropped off Fido at your friend's house and given
Boots an extra bowl of Friskies on your way out of town and called
it a plan. But wait. This year your friend is in Europe
and Boots has urinary tract infection. Do you cancel your
holiday plans or do you look into boarding? Can you still get
a reservation to board your pet this late in the year? Can
you board a sick animal? Is there such thing as a
pet-sitter? Here to explain the "inns" and outs of boarding
your furry (or scaly) friend is Gina
Spadafori, a pet expert who has co-authored several pet books
with Dr. Marty Becker.
Gargoyle Bat For students intimidated by
thick classic texts, "Gargoyle Bat" is just the right size. Written
by Del Jack, a local retired teacher, the book is designed to
appeal to high school-age readers who have low reading skills, but
a high interest in the plot: a whirlwind mix of danger, Brtish and
American culture, and teenage romance. Del joins us in studio today
to talk about the book--which was a career in the making.

producer David Balsom.
