Democratic National Convention: Day Two
California's delegation to the Democratic National Convention will play a
much larger role than the state's delegation to the Republican
National Convention. Capital Public Radio's National
Political Reporter Matt Laslo will explain what California
delegates are doing at the convention this week. Plus,
we'll check in on Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who isn't a
delegate, but will be the keynote speaker at the meeting of the
College Democrats of America at this year's DNC.

California's endangered animals are regulated by Federal and State
agencies but what about plants and insects? According to a
new study by a UC Davis researcher, anyone using private lands can
relocate and manage endangered plants. Dr. Mark Schwartz explains the problems
facing California's endangered plant life and why protecting the
state's flora is an unregulated free-for-all.
The Age of Champions A documentary about
senior Olympians. We'll talk with Keith Ochwat the
Sacramento-based filmmaker and producer about it. Keith Ochwat is the Managing Director of the
Documentary Foundation, a Sacramento, California-based
nonprofit dedicated to documentary production, education, and
outreach. His first feature, Age of Champions, premiered at the
prestigious Silverdocs Film Festival in Washington DC and was
called "infectiously inspiring" by the Washington
Post.
Béla Fleck Grammy nominated blues rock
guitarist Béla
Fleck is often considered the premier banjo player in the
world. He has virtually reinvented the image and the sound of
the banjo through a remarkable performing and recording career that
has spanned four decades. Fleck will be performing with the
Marcus Roberts Trio at Three Stages in Folsom Wednesday, September
5.
