School Funding Ballot Measures Students from
around the Sacramento region are heading back to school this week,
maybe unaware of the budget troubles their districts are
facing. Schools around California are bracing themselves for
a $5 billion dollar cut to education if Governor
Jerry Brown's tax initiative doesn't pass in November. A number
of districts in the region are placing bond or tax measures on
the November ballot to supplement possible future cuts. We'll
take a look at these different measures and hear how area school
districts are budgeting under the uncertainty of mid-year budget
cuts.
Heathens and Thieves The Sacramento Film
& Music Festival occurs August 15-19 at the Crest Theatre
to "celebrate and showcase filmmaking from around the world and
also foster the creative works of local filmmakers in California's
Capital region." "Heathens and Thieves" will screen on Friday,
August 17, at 9 p.m.
Nevada City Film Festival The
12th Nevada City Film Festival is screening 100 independent
short and feature length films from 16 countries. The Nevada City
Film Festival Director Spotlight highlights the work of Jonathan
Krisel, best known for co-creating, writing, and directing IFC's
critically acclaimed series Portlandia.
