K-12 Cuts California's K-12 education
narrowly avoided more than a billion in midyear budget cuts last
December and again this earlier this week when Governor Jerry Brown
released his revised budget projection for the upcoming year. But,
the new budget projections show that the state's public schools
will have to take a $5 billion cut later this year if the
Governor's tax initiative fails in November. The news comes
as more than 600 teachers in the Sacramento area are being laid off
so local school districts can shore up their budgets. Here to
discuss what K-12 funding cuts will mean for area schools and
teachers are Glynn Thompson, Superintendent of the San Juan Unified
School District, and Shannan Brown, President of the San Juan
Teachers Association.

Solar Eclipse Only people lucky enough to be
in a small swathe of land across Northern California, Nevada and a
handful of other Northwest states this Sunday afternoon will get a
rare glimpse of an annular eclipse. This partial eclipse of
the sun creates a burning ring around the silhouette of the moon
and occurs every 18 years. Here to explain more about the
solar eclipse and the best place to see it is Dr. Howard Spero, Chair of the Geology
Department at UC Davis.
To see the exact the pathway of the eclipse and the best
viewing locations as it moves across the Earth, visit the
