Tahoe Ski Resort Consolidation Two
out-of-state companies are slowly buying Tahoe's most well known
ski resorts. Colorado-based Vail Resorts purchased Kirkwood
last month (February), which means the company owns three of the
largest ski resorts in the Tahoe Area -Heavenly, Northstar-at-Tahoe
(which it purchased in 2010), and now Kirkwood. The other
Colorado-based resort operator is KSL Capital Partners of
Denver. It purchased Squaw Valley in late 2010, and Alpine
Meadows last year. But is ski resort consolidation a good or bad
thing? Here to discuss possible costs and benefits of Tahoe
area ski resort consolidation is the Co-president of Vail Resorts,
Blaise Carrig, and the CEO of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, Andy
Wirth.
