California's Unfunded Pensions
California's independent pension plans are underfunded by more than
$135 billion, according to a new report. The report
was released on Tuesday by the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research
and California
Common Sense. It says all of California's independent
pension systems, not including CalPERS or Calstrs, are less than 80
percent funded, which is the minimum standard for pension funding.
Most are hovering around 55 percent funded, including
Sacramento County's pension system.
