Bar Pilots All those massive containers, cargo ships and cruise-liners you see in the San Francisco Bay have to be navigated with precision to get into port. It's a dangerous job, and the elite group of people who do this are called Bar Pilots. They work in the Bay Area and upriver, guiding ships into the Ports of Sacramento and Stockton. Some of them will be in Sacramento Monday (2/13) to lobby lawmakers for safety improvements in their jobs.  The cruiseline disaster in Italy shows what can happen if safety is ignored.  VIDEO: Learn more about Bar Pilots

Visually Impaired in the Chemistry Lab Henry "Hoby" Wedler, a UC Davis doctoral student in chemistry, has reached this point in academia without ever seeing a chemical reaction.  This is because Hoby is blind.  With perseverance and the guidance of chemistry professor Dean Tantillo, Hoby was able to maneuver and overcome the complicated, lab-oriented environment without the use of sight.  For more information, go to http://ls.ucdavis.edu/mps/news-and-research/3-d.html
