Asian American Donor Program (AADP)
Janet Liang, a student of UCLA and sufferer of acute lymphoblastic
leukemia, was told by doctors that she has two months to live
unless she can find a perfect bone marrow match. Her chances
are slim, what with only 7% of the Asian-American community being
registered in the donor program. Vincent Trinh, a UC Davis
student, picked up on this alarming statistic and decided to take
action with social media and sense of camaraderie with the UC
system. Through Youtube videos and Facebook pages, he
organized a campus bone marrow drive (February 1, 2, 5) that has
amassed much attention from the community. The hope is that
together, Janet, Vincent, and the Asian American Donor Program,
they will be able to invoke awareness and change not only for Janet
but for others in need of matches, as well as the Asian-American
community as whole.
