New Year, New Laws We'll focus on a
handful of new laws taking effect this month with three Capital
Public Radio reporters. Health reporter Pauline
Bartolone discusses changes to needle exchange programs and the
minimum age for using tanning beds. Deputy Capitol
Bureau Chief Jenny O'Mara
talks about the changes to the age requirement for kindergarten
acceptance and the introduction of gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender curriculum into school curricula. State
government reporter Ben Adler talks about a law
that changes the foster emancipation age from 18 to
21.

"Images of America: Mather Field" Sacramento
Public Librarian James Scott and other library staff members have
written a book on the nearly 100-year history of Mather
Air Force Base which includes historic photos dating back to
when it opened as a World War I military flight training site, then
known as Mills Field. "Images of America: Mather Field" will
be published on January 9th, 2012.
Country Joe McDonald Singer/songwriter Country Joe
McDonald will be in Sacramento on Saturday, January 7th to
perform his 100 year anniversary Tribute to Woody Guthrie. In
a two-act, 90-minute presentation, McDonald weaves together
Guthrie's best-loved songs and some writings from Guthrie's
autobiography, his novel, and his Daily Worker newspaper
column.
