UC Merced Chancellor UC Merced's new chancellor, Dorothy Leland, is
at the state capitol today trying to convince legislators that UC Merced is
the catalyst that can unlock the Valley's vast untapped potential
and trigger the next great wave of invention, discovery and
economic growth across the state. She'll also be trying to
secure funding for one of the state's smallest UC campuses.
UC Merced has been largely immune from major system-wide budget
cuts so far, but in this economic climate it's impossible to
guarantee that any school's programs will be routinely
funded.

book, "The People of Burning Man: Portraits of
Revolutionary Spirits" -the Burning Man festival officially begins
at midnight August 29th and runs through Labor Day in the Black
Rock Desert in Nevada.
