Sunday's Broadcast Schedule
6:00 PM – Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers – Sacramento, CA |
In addition to his impressive credentials as a broadcaster (KXJZ Saturdays 1 – 5 p.m.) and journalist, Mick Martin has established himself as one of the hardest working bluesmen in the nation. The Blues Rockers have received many national and local awards and Mick has performed at Carnegie Hall with his mentor Jimmy Smith. Mick’s harmonica and vocals lead the band through a potent mixture of blues and rock.
7:00 PM – High Street Jazz Band – Nampa, ID |
This hard driving 10 piece "Swing and Jive" band really lit up the Jubilee last year and was a favorite of the swing dancing crowd. The members really get into character performing in zoot suits and fedoras. Their repertoire includes "Mustang Sally," but they also shift effortlessly into the nostalgia of "Tuxedo Junction."
8:00 PM – Hal Smith’s Hay Riders – San Diego, CA |
This is a new band organized by San Diego drummer Hal Smith. Hal has performed at nearly every Jubilee with a wide variety of bands. He describes the Hay Riders as a Rock-A-Billy band with a strong western swing flavor. The swing dance crowd will be pleased by the infectious beat of this band.
9:00 PM – Jazzin’ Jacks – Hoganas, Sweden |
The Jazzin’ Jacks has been a popular international band at the Jubilee since first performing here about 20 years ago. Led by trombonist Hans Inglestam, this sextet plays a traditional swinging style featuring tunes like St. Louis Blues in memory of Louis Armstrong.
10:00 PM – La Candela – Vancouver, BC |
After three supercharged performances at the Jubilee, this Latin Jazz band is clearly becoming one of the most popular in the festival. La Candela plays Cuban Groove music: salsa, son, cha-cha, danzon, and rhumba. Pianist Cary Garcia is particularly impressive and this band is guaranteed to get you out of your seat.
