Calling all teachers! Capital Public Radio is presenting world-renowned jazz clarinetist Ken Peplowski in a special concert/chat just for students at the Harris Center in Folsom on Friday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m.
This January marks the 80th anniversary of the Benny Goodman Orchestra’s ground-breaking appearance at Carnegie Hall, an event signaling the fact that jazz was not just popular music, it was an art form be-fitting America’s premiere classical concert.
Capital Public Radio and the Harris Center will commemorate that famous concert on Friday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. when Ken Peplowski performs with the Sacramento Jazz Orchestra. The event is already sold-out, but we have plenty of seats available for a special concert happening that morning.
Ken and his jazz sextet will demonstrate elements of swing and improvisation while discussing Goodman’s important contributions to music and society, including his pioneering efforts in racial integration on the band stand.
The morning show is open to 4th grade students through high schoolers. Register your class now at the Harris Center website.
