As our book selections continue their journey around the world, we find ourselves in Ghana for our August selection. Home going, is Yaa Gyasi’s debut novel, and what a novel it is. Each chapter in this work of historical fiction traces a different descendant of an Assent woman named Maame. Mama has two daughters and in a twist of fate, they are separated. One, Effie, marries a British Governor, in charge of a local fort. Effie’s half sister Esi is held captive, in the dungeon below the fort. It is their story and the stories of future generations that will enthrall you. Please join us for our discussion, at 2pm or 6pm, August 8 in our Community Room.
