A Gentleman In Moscow has, for me anyway, many requirements that will make a book one of my favorites. A lovely one eyed cat, several charmingly bright children, a glamorous hotel and a caper to find the ingredients for a perfect bouillabaisse in an otherwise food bereft Moscow. Amor Towles' latest novel is far from a documentary on life in post World War One Russia. It is a loving tribute to the men and women who, against all odds shared a delightful life within the very glamorous walls of The Hotel Metropol. In a period of time when men were strong, vodka drinking brutes, several female characters emerge here, as witty, wise and strong. Nina, Sofia and Anna Urbanova, a willowy actress combine in what I might call a troika of strength and humor.
Please join us on October 10 at either 2pm or 6pm to talk about them.
