For August, we are going to delve into Julian Fellowes’ Belgravia. Fellowes, author and mastermind of Downton Abbey has given us an extraordinary look into the lives of people in London around the time of the famous Battle of Waterloo. This battle was not so good for Napoleon, but it made the Duke of Wellington a hero. It also brought the rise in fortunes to many and the end of lives to others. The book gets its title from the privileged neighborhood near Buckingham Palace in London.
Belgravia was published as a serial, in the manner of Dickens, and the book is now available in several forms. You can read it on your e-readers, tablets or computers or in regular hardback book format.
I recently visited London, and I’ll have some photos for you of important locations in the book. Join me at one of our two meetings on Tuesday, August 9.
