Dreaming Spies

March 2015 book selection

Dreaming Spies

by Laurie R. King

March 4, 2015

A ship bound from India to Japan. A haiku master's verse. A dubious Earl and a small Japanese acrobat. What a start to a wonderful trip to the Far East with Laurie R. King's novel, Dreaming Spies.

In this, the 13th in the Mary Russell-Sherlock Holmes series, our guest for March CapRadio Reads, Laurie R. King, spins a tale of intrigue while also educating us in the history of Haiku and the Japanese Royal Family. Her vivid descriptions of the countryside give us a sense of what pre-war Japan was like and what customs entailed.

I hope you will be able to join us, for what I'm certain will be a fascinating evening with this very special author, in conversation with our own very special Donna Apidone. The fun all starts at 6:00pm on Tuesday March 10, in our Community Room. I'll look forward to seeing you there.

Dreaming Spies, our featured book for CapRadio Reads' March Author Event, is our guest Laurie R. King's 13th novel in the Mary Russell-Sherlock Holmes mysteries.

With the popularity of the BBC program, Sherlock, and the recently released book Silk Road, by Anthony Horowitz, we must remember that Ms. King has been on top of this game for many years. Her first book in the series, Beekeeper's Apprentice, features a very young, 15-year-old Mary Russell.

With Dreaming Spies, we see Mary, and her now-husband, Sherlock, going from Oxford to Japan and back again in another wonderfully historic mystery. What a treat to be able to meet the young Hirohito. We know his name because he was the Emperor of Japan during World War II, but the young prince is really quite a charming, naive fellow.

It will be such a treat to have Laurie R. King with us in conversation with Donna Apidone. I am sure the questions and answers will give you an even closer look at this historic, if unknown, couple.

Please join us at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, in our Community Room, and don't wait a minute longer to get your tickets, as they will be gone in a blink of an eye.

New York Times Bestselling  author of the Mary Russell historical mysteries, will join us on March 10 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss her new book, Dreaming Spies.

The newest in her mystery series featuring Sherlock Holmes and his wife, Mary Russell, is set between Japan and Oxford, England, and features an interesting look into Japan at the time when Hirohito was just a naive prince.

Ms. King will be "in conversation" with our own Donna Apidone for another of our hugely popular author evenings. We will fill you with tales of mystery as well as delicious foods and lovely wines. Readers always eager to find out the ins and outs of the writing process. This book has it all, from archeological oddities to art forgery to the art of Ninja.

Please join us and buy your tickets quickly. I guarantee this event will sell out right away.

We look forward to seeing you. Thanks for reading.
