Did Sid?

February 2014 book selection

Did Sid?

by Paul Robins

February 12, 2014

Thanks to everyone who joined us for an evening of laughs and reminiscing with FOX 40 Morning Man Paul Robins and our own President and General Manager Rick Eytcheson.  These two go way back in the radio business in Sacramento so they had lots to talk about.  Of course part of that conversation was about Paul's new book Did Sid?, a mystery set in Sacramento. They did divulge the basis for a few of the more "colorful" characters in the book, as well as talking about writing style and how they each got where they are today.  Along with the chatter, we also had wonderful food and wine, and the evening ended with a book signing.  Eveyone was having so much fun, Paul had to finally excuse himself and get home, so that he might be able to rise again at two am in order to be in his chair on FOX40 in the morning.

If you weren't able to make it, check back in to our website soon and we will have the full conversation up and ready for you to listen.

Sacramento in the 80's was a pretty cool place, according to Paul Robins, Morning News Anchor on FOX40, here in Sacramento.  Paul has given those of us who were not here (and those who were) a feel for what our city was like in 1980.  His new book, Did Sid? takes place in our fair city and many of the characters will be familiar to us, although some of the names have been changed to protect the guilty.

I hope you have had a chance to read this romp through Sactown, and get to know Sid Bigler and his cohorts.  They are sweet, sad and funny, and the story is terrific.  If you haven't purchased your copy, we'll have them for sale at the event; all proceeds going to charity.  The book is also available online from Amazon or from our friends at The Avid Reader at Tower in Sacramento.  Our event still has a few tickets left, so please come join the fun.  We will be in our Community Room at Capital Public Radio,  6:30, Tuesday, February 11th.  It is sure to be another fun night at CapRadio Reads.

Well. Did Sid?  How are you enjoying this ramble through Sacramento with our hometown hero? Who could dislike this guy enough to try to frame him for murder? And don't you love Sid's family?

Paul Robins has given us an entertaining slice of Sacramento mystery, reliving the 80's in a literary sense.  I really look forward to hearing how Paul came to write this book and find out if he has a plan for Sid in the future.  Please join us in our Community Room on Tuesday, February 11th at 6:30 and find out.

Paul Robins is a man of many hats.  Most mornings he can be seen on FOX40 as the news anchor.  He hosted a long-running morning radio show in Sacramento, won several Emmys and is a graduate of Sac State.  Now, he can also say he is an author, with the publication of his new mystery Did Sid?  We are very happy that Paul is the featured author for our February CapRadio Reads Author Event.  The event, to be held in our Community Room on February 11th at 6:30 p.m. will be a fun evening, with Paul in conversation with our President and General Manager, Rick Eytcheson.

Rick and Paul will talk about this funny new mystery, which stars Sid Bigler, an insecure deli owner in Sacramento in the 80's.  Sid, like his author, is a runner and while running in the warm evenings here in Sacramento, he seems to be following a crime wave.  It soon becomes eveident that the crime wave is following him.  The story sprints from there, with twists and turns, great characters and a little local history and geography thrown in.

We hope you enjoy the book as much as we have.  You canorder it Amazon, or from our underwriter for CapRadio Reads, The Avid Reader at Tower.  All proceeds from the sale of the book at this event, will be donated to either Easter Seals local chapter or Atkinson Youth Services.

It's a great opportunity.  Read a wonderful book, give to a great charity and come to a party!

Be sure and get your tickets, as they will be gone in a flash.

As always, thanks for reading and see you in February.
