What a story, and oh, these characters. How about that soliloquy by Richard Burton? I can already hear the buzz in the Community Room as we start the conversation about this book.
Who ARE these people? Poor, poor Pasquale..but wait, what about his former beloved in Florence? Poor Dee. What in the world has Michael Deane done to her, and that son of hers? Unbelievably disrespectul, don't you think?
Jess Walter's book Beautiful Ruins, which is CapRadio Reads July title is an amazing book for a conversation. The farther along in the book the reader gets, the more complicated the story and the people are. What may have appeared to be a light summer read, about a glorious part of Italy is now a truly cinematic journey through time and through the hearts of our characters. The twists and turns have started, but hold onto your hats, it gets better.
