About Joe Strickland:
Rarely a new medium is conceived, however a unique method of painting has been harnessed by artist Joe Strickland. Mixing water with oil is not normally thought of as a viable combination of ingredients but this is exactly what makes Strickland's art profoundly different from conventional painting. The pigments are manipulated by the water and oils natural order of repulsion, which results in remarkable color combinations, textures and blends. Strickland has created a technique of applying numerous layers of water based acrylic color onto an oil base. The petroleum surface repels the water allowing the pigment to be "suspended" while it dries" This "suspended" composition is then repositioned onto a permanent surface. He has added a third dimension to some of his work by creating thicker layers with bio safe epoxies His latest endeavors have taken his methods to canvas, board and aluminum surfaces with a greater opportunity for substantially larger works. His distinctive style has given him local, national and international recognition with many private and corporate collectors.
