Solar Soundtrack: The CapRadio Music Eclipse Playlists

Monday's eclipse will be a feast for the eyes. And just like a great meal can be enhanced by the right beverage, we here at Capital Public Radio thought the moment could be even better with the right pairing for your ears.

So we asked our CapRadio Music experts for their recommendations to set just the right mood while you're staring at the sun (WITH PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR).

If you're looking for more ways to enhance your eclipse day, check out our list of places in the Sacramento-area to view the eclipse and a list of apps to help you get the most of out of it.

Jazz

Curated by Jazz and Classical Host Victor Forman. Listen to CapRadio's 24/7 jazz online at jazzstream.org

Set the mood for the eclipse's "daytime evening" with these mostly mellow, easy-listening tunes.

Classical

Curated by Classical Host Kevin Doherty

Make this once-in-a-lifetime event a “classical eclipse.” I’ve made it a point to sync this playlist up with the progression of the moon as it overtakes the sun. So when you sync the playlist to the beginning of this celestial event at 9:02 a.m. PT, prepare to be amazed. Kick back, relax and let the music take you through every phase of the eclipse. Experience the mystery of night being where it doesn’t belong with Strauss, Mozart, Beethoven and Debussy. Then feel free to breathe a sigh of relief as the sun re-emerges with Grieg, Vivaldi, and Vaughan Williams.

Pop

Curated by Hey Listen! host Nick Brunner

Of all the available approaches to the eclipse (Backyard BBQ event, black metal, chanting) I went with the moody and electronic. Artists like Tycho, Black Marble and Brian Eno always set a late night mood for me. That space even allowed for David Bowie, music from Minecraft and an autotuned Carl Sagan.
