Stockton police have arrested about two dozen people and a county correctional officer in connection with a crackdown on a prominent gang.

Police Chief Eric Jones says the arrests, and drugs and firearms seized yesterday are part of an operation launched in 2015 against the North Side Gangster Crips.

“This group gained our attention for multiple shootings over the years," says Jones. "To say what kind of dent we’re going to put in it...I just know by getting these particular offenders off the streets, and these particular firearms off the streets, who knows how many shootings we may have prevented. We just don’ t know.”

Jones says one of the 13 guns seized has already been connected to a shooting in Stockton.

Police say gang members were buying large amounts of heroin in Stockton and then selling it in Reno at a higher price.

About half of the arrests were made in Reno.

The San Joaquin County correctional officer who was arrested is charged with participating in gang activity, and possessing and selling drugs.
