San Joaquin County and the union representing 4,500 county employees have reached a tentative agreement on a 3-year contract. This comes after 10 months of negotiations and a 3-day strike.
In July hundreds of workers from public works, welfare, and child protection services, to name a few, walked off their jobs after failing to reach an agreement.
Both sides went to mediation and now the county is offering an $800 one-time payment, a 5 percent increase in the first year and 1 percent in the 3rd year.
SEIU 2010 Field Director Bill Petrone says it’s a good contract considering workers haven’t had any meaningful raises over the last few years.
“They’re glad they have an agreement, they like the one-time money up front and the 5 percent up front,” Petrone says. “We feel our members will overwhelmingly ratify this contract.”
Petrone says union members will vote on the new contract on Tuesday.
