Democrat Ami Bera has released an attack ad against Sheriff Scott Jones on the same day the U.S. Attorney's Office announced it will not charge the congressman with campaign fraud.
The ad replays media coverage of a sexual harassment allegation against Sheriff Scott Jones.
No complaints or charges have been filed against Jones. He says the allegation is without merit and that Bera should pull the ad.
Bera won the June primary by 8 percentage points over Jones. But, that lead has shrunk.
Two polls last month show the two candidates are in a dead heat.
Bera's father, Babulal, was convicted of reimbursing people who funded his son's campaign and was sentenced to a year in prison.
