South Sacramento Roads Improving

Some south Sacramento streets are in the middle of a renaissance.

Sacramento County held a ribbon-cutting today for the completion of a Franklin Boulevard beautification project.

A half-mile of the boulevard -from 300 feet south of 47th Avenue to the north- now has a median full of trees and flowers as well as curbs and gutters.

Frank Cable owns the Franklin Center and says previous improvements have helped bring businesses to the area.

"We still need to work on infrastructure on the boulevard. We need to work on facades, people building up, taking care of their buildings, bringing em up a little bit. If we can keep doing that, it just gets a little better all the time."

The recently-completed project is the third on the street in recent years.

The work cost about $2 million.

A similar project is underway on Florin Road that also includes signal lights at the railroad tracks.
