California's office of Emergency Services is sending 18 urban search and rescue specialists from around the state to assist in the search and recovery. The team was requested by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and includes members from the Sacramento Fire Department, as well as the fire departments in San Diego, Riverside Los Angeles and Orange County.

Sacramento fire officials say they're getting crews and gear to the area as fast as possible.

There are eight urban search and rescue task force teams in California. Members specialize in areas like search and rescue, first aid, heavy equipment operations and hazardous materials.

The debris slide in Northwest Washington State happened after heavy rain, and covers about a square mile of land, including a highway.
