Rain, Snow On The Way

Chris Hintz with the National Weather Service office in Sacramento says two things make this storm significant:

"First of all we haven't had precip in several weeks now and the other thing is that this system is tapping into some subtropical moisture and when that occurs we typically get a pretty good dose of rainfall over interior Northern California."

Hintz says the storm will drop about a quarter to a half-an-inch of rain in Sacramento.

"There's going to be several waves coming through so it's kind of going to be off and on precipitation through Wednesday and then by Thursday it looks like it'll just be lingering showers over the mountains."

In the South Lake Tahoe area, snow levels will be from 6,500-7,000 feet with up to two inches of snow. Snow levels in the Yosemite region will be around 7,500 feet.
