The commitment from the U.S. Department of Transportation is half of the $270 million needed to connect Meadowview Road with Cosumnes River College. The new Blue Line will include stops at Morrison Creek, Franklin Boulevard, and Center Parkway.
Sacramento City Councilwoman Bonnie Pannell spent fourteen years working to get the Blue Line extended, "This project is not only my dream come true but a community vision that will provide a much-needed economic boost to this area. It will support our education system and support our social network."
LaHood says the four-mile-long project will create at least a thousand jobs, "This will not only transport people -this light rail, this becomes an economic engine all along the corridor creating jobs -small businesses that begin to pop up, and for every small business, there will be somebody that'll be employed"
