Dozens of companies showed off their clean-fuel vehicles at a Sacramento forum Tuesday.   

The vehicles ranged from big and noisy….like the all-electric United Postal Service van made by EVI… to the small and quiet ….like this electric motorcycle made by Vectrix and used by the Las Vegas Police Department. 

The bike boasts a range of 85 miles per charge. Jeff Simpson of Vectrix says better batteries are increasing the range and attractiveness of electric vehicles, " "The fact that we can get those ranges is giving the marketplace an opportunity to use technology that five-to-seven years ago wasn't strong enough.  It wasn't robust enough. "

Simpson says Vectrix has sold about 1,000 bikes to police departments around the world. The top-end bike costs about $14,000.

There were also companies producing clean-burning fuel, like methane.  A rendering plant in Chico recently received a grant from the California Energy Commission to build an anaerobic digester.  

Brian Gannon with Biogas Energy says the digester will pay for itself, "This thing will be profitable in two years time, given that grant.  Without the grant, it would probably make back its money in four years.  That's a pretty good return on investment for any project."
