Autumn Nguyen is a teacher at Edward Harris Jr. Middle School. She says teachers and students are very excited the shuttle will be so close, "Just having the opportunity to take the kids on our campus has been motivation for pretty much the entire campus. All of these students who thought science was just okay are now coming out and saying, 'Hey, I kind of want to be part of that science thing. What's going on?'"
NASA and Edward Harris Jr. Middle School have collaborated for some time. James Ponder teaches the middle schoolers. He says NASA's involvement has had a real effect on the children, "You can't really underestimate the impact that that has on the kids' life and on the lives of the kids around them -the motivation of the kids around them that are seeing these kids doing these things and getting these perks."
Students at the school are currently part of a NASA science symposium. The kids conduct research or engineer a project. NASA selects just two students nationally to present their projects.
