It's state law students entering 7th grade be immunized against whooping cough.
Elk Grove Unified's Tami Silvera says two immunization clinics will be held at district facilities on the 14th and 15th of this month, "We determined that it would be best if we could hold these kinds of services in house at schools where families are comfortable attending and going to and their children are comfortable with it."
The federal government provides the vaccines at no cost to the district.
Elk Grove started an immunization program four years ago with the help of Kaiser Permanente grants. Silvera says the program should be able to operate without Kaiser's funding next year, but the district hopes to secure another grant to deliver other medical services on school grounds.
Last year, the district administered nearly 1700 immunizations to children of families in need.
