Backers of the tax proposal say they've turned in 848-thousand signatures to election officials, well more than required.
It would raise personal income taxes on all but the poorest Californians.
Michelle Parker is P-T-A President for the San Francisco Unified School District. She says the initiative would restore funding for classrooms.
Parker: "We have fewer teachers in classrooms, we have overcrowded classrooms and we've lost important programs such as music and art, our children our future is going to change all that."
