Sutter's Landing Park will soon be home to a solar-powered trash compactor and recycling unit.
Justin Caporusso with Waste Management says the company put up $200,000 in grants for waste-reduction and environmentally-friendly projects. The proposal for a high-tech trash bin at Sutter's Landing Park was one of the winners.
CAPORUSSO: "They are powered by the sun, so they don't take any energy from the grid. And, they come accompanied with a recycling unit so that you can have single-stream recycling that is in an enclosed space and won't be rifled through and can actually help to divert some of those materials from being thrown into the traditional waste stream."
