The park has been undergoing a $1 million renovation since February. It is scheduled to be open just in time for next Wednesday's return of the farmer's market.
And Friday is when the Concerts in the Park start. Lisa Martinez is with the City of Sacramento. She says the plaza has a new….and smaller…lawn
MARTINEZ: Because that location is such a popular destination for major events: from Concerts in the Park, to the farmer's markets, to the Grape Escape; to decrease the amount of maintenance to the lawn out there, they've created some hard-scaped surfaces."
Martinez says the music for the concerts features some well-known local groups.
MARTINEZ: "Oleander, Mumbo Gumbo, Seven Seconds: it's really a great mix of a lot of the favorite bands that we've got here in Sacramento, but also a lot of newcomers that haven't played the park before- local DJs that you find spinning in a lot of the different nightclubs here in Sacramento."
