The university says Carmichael has spent the last ten years as
a lieutenant on the UCD police force. He's been acting chief of the
department for the past five months. He moved into the
position on an interim basis when the former chief was placed on
leave, after line officers used pepper spray on student
demonstrators last November.
In a statement released by UC Davis, Carmichael
says his top priority in the next few months will be to rebuild the
relationship between the police and the campus
community.
