An undercover investigation by the Sacramento Police Department has resulted in the arrest of six recycling center employees for enabling thieves to sell stolen copper.
Sergeant Andrew Pettit says officers have been investigating a number of recycling centers in the past three months. Officers found employees at Tomra and River City Waste Recyclers ignored state law and falsified documents.
PETTIT: "If these people brought in recyclables and these metals and didn't have identification, they would then use somebody else's identification in the system to say that they did have that valid i.d."
Some of the people arrested face felony charges for receiving stolen property.
Pettit says detectives will continue to investigate with the hope they can solve some of the copper thefts that have plagued the region in recent years.
