Every time Vincene Jones rings the bell, a pool gets a little closer to being full for the summer. Council members shouted out to Vincene every time someone made a donation.
"We have a donation $10,000!"
Councilmen Darrell Fong and Steve Cohn received most of their donations from businesses, but were stunned by one unexpected donation from 11-year-old Rachel Buller.
BULLER: "I'm donating $655."
COHN/FONG: "What? You are donate…Wow!"
COHN: "Thank you! You must be quite a
swimmer."
BULLER: Yep. I have this mistletoe selling
business I do in winter because my dad puts up a lot of white
lights. And when people come by, they buy hot cocoa and mistletoe
that I sell."
With Buller's donation, the council raised about
$80,000.
Save Mart Supermarkets has promised to give a matching
donation for every dollar given by the community, up to
$500,000.
