Matsui wants to see pedestrian and bicycle traffic included in road projects funded with federal money. One of the streets she would like to see changed is Fruitridge Road. In many places, it has no curbs nor bicycle lanes.
MATSUI: "This street and many others in Sacramento could be improved. Not only would changes make it safe for pedestrians, if done correctly, they can revitalize a neighborhood."
A young woman was killed on Fruitridge last month as she tried to cross the street in a crosswalk.
The National Complete Streets coalition says 7,000 Californians were killed in the last decade while walking.
