It could take a little extra time from now on to travel on four streets in Sacramento if the City Council approves recommendations put before them. Linda Tucker with the city says the Transportation Department reviews the speed limit on every city street every seven years or whenever development has occurred nearby.
TUCKER: "We would look at the vehicle traffic and we look at what 85% of the vehicles are travelling at and then we make adjustments where necessary. We would not necessarily make adjustments according to the 85th percentile rule if there are other reasons why not to, such as pedestrian safety.."
Riverside Boulevard between Broadway and Sutterville Road would be a 30 mph zone because of multiple unmarked crosswalks.
Colfax Street, Honor Parkway, and Regency Park Circle would be 25 mph zones. Tucker says people who drive those streets already drive under the current 30 mph limit.
