Minutes after Tyrone Smith was arrested in October for shooting a Twin Rivers' police officer, Smith lost consciousness and died.
Dr. Stephanie Flore's report shows Smith had cardiovascular disease, was obese and hypertensive, had bronchitis and was under the influence of marijuana at the time of his arrest. Flore says the physical stress of a five-minute foot chase with Sacramento Police that included his climbing over several fences caused his death.
Smith was handcuffed and in the back seat of a police car when officers reported he had fallen on the floor and was not breathing. They performed CPR on him for seven minutes before paramedics arrived. Flore's report says the position of Smith's hands behind his back during CPR most likely caused the two deep tissue bruises on his lower back.
