The small town of Linda in Yuba County has a new
community garden and some people there are hoping it and the
almost-entirely-edible tree will help reverse an alarming trend of
obesity.
Greg Evans with Moringa Farms in Los Angeles is donating two
thousand Moringa seeds and trees to the Harmony Health Center in
Linda.
EVANS: "Use them in salads, smoothie drinks and they continue to grow so it's just a continual bed of produce."
He donated the trees after being contacted by Jamie Ports… an
Americorps Volunteer working to improve the area's nutrition.
65% of Yuba County's adults are obese.
PORTS: "Eventually, they could start growing it at
their house, preparing it in their meals, and if we do nutrition
training out of the café, they could start learning about it and
hopefully become empowered to have healthier
diets."
