The state Assembly approved legislation that would allow
Californians to register to vote online. County elections
officials would use a voter's signature from the Department of
Motor Vehicles to verify the registration. That bill must go back
to the Senate for final approval. The Assembly sent a
measure to the Governor that would require big box stores such as
Wal-Mart to submit a report on the economic impact the retailer
would have on a community before it could move in. Another
bill that's headed to the Governor's desk deals with red light
cameras. The measure prohibits the use of such cameras to
raise revenues and is intended to make it easier for wrongfully
ticketed drivers to get a citation cleared. The legislative
session wraps up next Friday.
