If the revenue shortfall continues, that could trigger new cuts. In-home support hours to the low income elderly and disabled would be slashed by 20 percent.
Deborah Doctor of Disability Rights California says this program helps thousands of people eat, walk, bathe and go to the bathroom.
DOCTOR: This is not about ironing someone's doilies for
them. This is about real basic care that keeps people in their
homes.
Doctor says the service keeps people out of nursing homes and emergency rooms.
DOCTOR: There's public policy being made here that favors
institutional care over home and community-based services.
The Brown administration will decide in mid-December whether the state will have enough money to continue current funding for the program.
