According to the P-P-I-C poll, support for new nuclear power
plants in California has dropped in the wake of the Japanese
nuclear crisis. Sixty-five percent of adults oppose building
new plants, while 30 percent are in favor. That's a 14-point
drop in support since last July.
The question of off-shore oil drilling has Californians more
evenly split: 46 percent favor and 49 percent oppose. Support
for drilling is up 12 points from a year ago.
Most Californians say global warming is a serious threat and
support the state's effort to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions.
Those surveyed also give Governor Jerry Brown a 42 percent
approval rating -identical to his rating in May, despite the
passage of an on-time state budget during that period.
The statewide poll of about 25-hundred adults was conducted earlier
this month.
